  Search Tips for Basic Search

  • KnowX's Basic Search automatically searches by debtor and creditor and will return a broader range of results than the Advanced Search.

  • You may enter the name you are searching in any order. For example, William Tanner can be entered as William Tanner or Tanner William.

  • You do not have to enter a last name and first name. If you choose, you can enter a last name only; but be aware of the large amount of search results that may be returned. You may also enter the first name only.

  • Similar names (including nicknames & spelling variations) will be searched automatically for common names. For example, William Tanner will find matches on William Tanner, Will Tanner, Willie Tanner, Bill Tanner, Billie Tanner, etc.

  • Do not enter partial characters. For example, if you enter BRO, it will not find Brown, Brothers, Broward, etc. There is NO expansion on the terms.

  • If you wish to include a middle initial or middle name, it can be entered with the name in any order. However, be aware that the middle initial will not expand to a full middle name. For example, if you enter William A Tanner it will not find William Avery Tanner.

  • When searching hyphenated names, either enter the hyphen in the appropriate place or enter the two names without a space.

  • You may search by suffix or titles. (i.e. JR, SR, III, etc.) For example, William Tanner III will only find matches with all three terms, William Tanner III, in your results.

  • You do not have to enter periods or commas. Periods and commas are stripped from a search when entered.

  • State = the state in which the records were filed.

  • State selection: The All State option will search Bankruptcy Records, Judgments, Lawsuits, Liens, and UCCs in all available jurisdictions. Check the Coverage Area section to determine the jurisdictions included in each of these databases.

  • Your results will be sorted by data type. To view the results, you will need to click on the data type. Scroll through the results to find the individual or business you are investigating.
  Search Tips for Advanced Search

  • You may narrow your results by entering a street address, city/town, filing amount, and filing date.

  • When searching by street address, do not include street suffixes or directions, e.g. st, lane, blvd, court, NE, South.

  • Addresses for the debtor, creditor, and attorney and attorney are not maintained for all record types.

  • Query Type: You may select from two query types – concept or narrow. Use a Concept search if your results need to contain variations of the name that is being searched. Narrow queries will only include exact matches in the Summary with very slight variations.

  • Record Type: Select one or more record types of the databases you wish to search.

  • State of Filing: Select up to five (5) states of filing to search or select “All States” to search nationwide.

  • Search Type: You may search by Debtor, Creditor, or Attorney. Please use the basic search if you wish to search creditor and debtor simultaneously.

  • Amount: You may narrow your search by entering a filing amount to obtain results with only the entered amount. Amount should be entered in whole numbers.

  • Date: You may narrow your search by entering a filing date to obtain results with only the entered date. Filing date should be entered as 06/26/2001.
