The USCG Vessels database includes information on ownership of merchant and recreational vessels documented under the laws of the United States by the United States Coast Guard. |
| |
The following criteria describes vessels required to be documented by the Coast Guard:
- Vessel owned by a U.S. citizen or U.S. Corporation with an internal capacity of 5 net tons and over.
- Any vessel involved in coastwise and/or fishing traces regardless of capacity.
|
| |
Examples of vessels in the file include Merchant vessels, Recreational vessels, Commercial-owned vessels, Coastal fishing vessels, and many personally owned vessels. Generally, vessels smaller than 37 feet in length are not registered with the Coast Guard. Therefore, a majority of recreational boats will not be included in USCG Vessels. Most recreational watercraft is registered with recreational vehicle bureaus of the various state governments. To search for this type of boat, search the Watercraft database. |
